Bio

Born and raised in Chicago. I did my undergrad, medical school, and orthopedic surgery residency at Northwestern under Armen Kelikian, then an orthopedic foot and ankle surgery fellowship with Mark Myerson and Clifford Jeng. Mentors I still learn from every day.

I've led the Foot and Ankle Department at Northwestern for thirteen years. In that time I was appointed the Potocsnak Professor of Orthopedic Surgery — a chair made possible by a grateful patient after we tried a novel technique that worked. I take that origin seriously.

Ten years ago I founded our F&A fellowship. My first American fellow, Dr. Milap Patel, DO, is now my partner and the silent strength of the practice. My first international fellow, Dr. Muhammad Alshouli, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Training is not a sideline — it's why I started this podcast.

I started this podcast because the most useful conversations in foot and ankle surgery usually happen off-mic. This is my attempt to put them on the record.
